Dr. Sutkin is board-certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and is the Associate Dean and Victor and Caroline Schutte Chair in Women’s Health. He is a practicing Urogynecologist and specializes in women with pelvic floor prolapse. He provides both reconstructive pelvic surgery and non-surgical treatments for women with pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and other pelvic floor disorders. He is also Professor with tenure in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics at the UMKC School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine and completed his residency training in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive surgery from the Magee-Women’s Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh after completing his residency in 2006, and was in the Academy of Master Educators and directed the Obstetrics and Gynecology core clerkship until 2016, when he came to UMKC. Dr. Sutkin’s current research interests center on surgical safety and error prevention. He is interested in the biomechanics of individual surgeon error and how communication between attending and resident surgeons impact patient outcome.
