Clinical education

Advanced practice providers

As an academic medical center, University Health (UH) excels at career advancement and professional development. Our diverse advanced practice providers (APP) practice in more than 27 divisions corporate-wide. We provide culturally competent, comprehensive care to Jackson County residents, employees and community partners. Our APPs lead and manage both inpatient and outpatient teams, facilitate access to care, and provide quality care for our community.

Nursing doctoral research at UH

UH welcomes and supports nursing research. We believe research, PI and QI projects engage students and workforce members, and improve outcomes, quality and safety indicators for patients. If you are interested in completing a doctoral research project at UH, please complete the Doctoral Project Request Form and submit with your abstract for consideration.

APRN clinical affiliations

If you are seeking Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) clinical rotation, please review the FAQs and complete the Graduate Nursing Placement Request form and submit a Letter of Good Standing via upload to application. Additionally, you will need to upload your COVID card to the application as well as badge request form & photo (of face only on white background).

At this time, we are only placing UH employees due to the large number of employees seeking advanced degrees.

Additionally, we are only accepting PA students from the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) School of Physician Assistants.

APRN clinical ladder

UH's clinical ladder program will provide APRN role fulfillment, including clinical research, process and quality improvement, and development of future leaders. As with other professional development models, the intent is also to promote retention of APRNs, ensure patient and provider satisfaction, and improve organizational outcomes.

Purpose

The intent of a clinical ladder program for the Advanced Practice Nursing Department is to:

  1. Facilitate APRN recruitment and promote retention.
  2. Create a dynamic learning environment in our academic medical center.
  3. Recognize and reward clinical excellence and leadership.
  4. Establish clinical excellence as a performance expectation.
  5. Improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  6. Set the stage for research and establish a "Center of Excellence" for advanced practice nursing.

Onboarding

Based on the Vizient/Centers for advanced practitioners Onboarding Pilot Program, our onboarding process includes a multidisciplinary experience, allowing for unique educational opportunities. Each APP spends time with our Revenue Integrity team, provider IT training team, Pharmacy 340b program director and social work services team, among others. This process enhances the onboarding experience for our newly hired providers and allows an increased understanding of the organizational culture and the patients served.

Open positions
