Meet our residents

PGY1

Adam Ahrens, PharmD

Dr. Adam Ahrens received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University in May 2022. His practice interest is oncology. His residency research project involves comparing IV to PO therapy in mandibular osteomyelitis. Additional projects include comparing weight gain associated with INSTI or PI based HIV regimens, the discontinuation of TKIs in CML, and demonstrating the value of oncology pharmacists located at safety net hospitals. Upon completion of his PGY-1, he plans to pursue a PGY-2 in oncology pharmacy.

Mariah Berg, PharmD

Dr. Mariah Berg received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy in May 2022. Her practice interests are ambulatory care and cardiology. Dr. Berg’s research project involves evaluating the risk vs benefit of amlodipine in patients with HFpEF and HFrEF. Upon completion of her PGY-1, Dr. Berg plans to pursue a PGY-2 in one of her interest areas or obtain a clinical position in a hospital setting and a board certification in pharmacotherapy.

Matie Meeks, PharmD

Dr. Matie Meeks received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in May 2022. Her current practice interests include psychiatry and substance use disorders. Dr. Meeks’ research project involves evaluating the use of high or low dose steroids with Tocilizumab in ARDS and COVID-19 patients. Upon completion of her PGY-1, Dr. Meeks plans to pursue a PGY-2 in one of her interest areas.

Maddy Yamnitz, PharmD

Dr. Maddy Yamnitz received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy in May 2022. Her current practice interests include critical care, emergency medicine, and medication safety. Dr. Yamnitz’s research project involves investigating racial inequality among prescribed opioids within the health system. Upon completion of her PGY-1, Dr. Yamnitz plans to pursue a PGY-2 in one of her interest areas or a clinical position in an academic medical center, as well as obtaining board certification in pharmacotherapy.

PGY2

Mariecarl Baliscao, PharmD

Dr. Mariecarl Baliscao received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University School of Pharmacy in May 2021. She completed her PGY-1 residency at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Her practice interest is critical care. Dr. Baliscao’s research project involves evaluating the therapeutic and safety outcomes of sodium bicarbonate use in in-hospital cardiac arrest. Upon completion of her PGY-2, she plans to obtain board certification in critical care pharmacotherapy and work as a critical care clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting.
