The financial worry of a medical bill is a real concern for many of us and, not surprisingly, often causes a great deal of anxiety.
University Health provides the best quality of care to everyone, regardless of one's financial situation. University Health accepts most commercial and government-sponsored health insurance plans (e.g., Medicaid and Medicare). For those who do not have healthcare coverage, our Financial Counseling Center will assist you with determining potential eligibility for commercial medical insurance through the Missouri Health Insurance Exchange or coverage assistance programs such as Medicare, MO HealthNet (Medicaid), Crime Victims Compensation Fund and/or the UH Financial Assistance Program*.
University Health Financial Assistance Program eligibility is based on residency, income and family size. Applicants must be Kansas City, Missouri, and/or Jackson County, Missouri, residents, and their income must be below 200% of federal poverty level guidelines. In order to provide you with good customer service and accurately assist with your eligibility, you will be required to bring several documents and forms with you so that Financial Counseling Center representatives can best serve your needs. Financial assistance policy
The University Health Financial Assistance Policy provides eligible patients financial assistance for emergency or medically necessary hospital care. Patients seeking financial assistance must apply for the program.
Eligible services: Emergency and/or medically necessary healthcare services provided by University Health.
Eligible patients: Patients receiving eligible services who have no other payer source, who submit a financial assistance application and reside in Kansas City, Missouri, or Jackson County, Missouri, who meet income, asset and citizenship requirements, are eligible for financial assistance by University Health Financial Counseling Center.

Determination of financial assistance eligibility
Generally, patients who reside in Kansas City, Missouri, or Jackson County, Missouri, with family income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and meet the asset guidelines, will receive financial assistance and pharmaceutical assistance. Eligible patients will not be charged more for emergency care or other medically necessary care than those patients who have insurance or than amounts generally billed.

*University Health Financial Assistance is not health insurance, and the discount only applies when used at a University Health facility (our hospital, or at one of our clinics). Being eligible for University Health Financial Assistance does not mean you are automatically compliant with federal health insurance requirements.
