Spiritual health

"Bidden or not bidden, God is present."
—Carl Jung, MD

Spiritual Wellness offers the services of a chaplain for patients and visitors. Chaplains are available:

  • To listen and offer spiritual and emotional support.
  • To accompany those in crisis or grief.
  • To share prayer and sacraments and to lead worship.
  • To reflect and consult on ethical concerns and decisions.

Chaplains are members of the professional care team. As with all healthcare professionals, they are trained and certified to be a positive, healing resource. A chaplain is always present at our University Health Truman Medical Center campus 24 hours a day—responding to the spiritual care needs of patients, families and staff in our busy and vital medical setting.

Our chaplains believe healing can occur even when a cure is not possible. They support patients and families in prayer, pastoral counseling and as a link to the patient's own faith community. Our interfaith chaplains can meet with patients and their families in a hospital room, in the chapel or wherever there is a need. The chaplains are available to people of all faiths and religions. The chaplain team seeks to provide sensitivity and care to all diverse expressions of spirituality.

The chaplains will walk with you on the journey of healing and stand with you as you make decisions concerning treatment and care, healing, and physical renewal. They will help you through the process of grief and loss, in addition to celebrating the important events of life. If you have chronic illness issues, have end-of-life issues, need a support group or wish to discuss advance healthcare directives, our chaplains are here for you.
