Thanks to exciting partnerships, cancer patients at University Health can have the option to take advantage of local and national cancer research studies. Getting involved can help improve cancer treatment for others in the future. It can also help current patients access new treatments that aren’t widely available yet.
National cancer research
We are a National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program. We bring national studies to Kansas City. These clinical trials are powerful. They can change guidelines for cancer care. And they can improve the outlook for cancer patients around the world.
Our patients don't have to travel to participate. These opportunities are available in our community. For example, we have our own biospecimen repository where we store tissue and blood samples to be used in cancer research. And the Department of Oncology Research collaborates with the Masonic Cancer Alliance and the University of Kansas Health System.
Local clinical trials
The Richard & Annette Bloch Cancer Center at University Health is home to dedicated cancer specialists. In addition to treating patients, many of these providers also conduct cancer research. Our patients get the opportunity to take part in this research if they wish.
Find a cancer clinical trial
Volunteer opportunities vary. They depend on the type of cancer you have and what trials are recruiting right now.
At the Cancer Center, our patients get personalized support. Our patient navigators and nurse care managers coordinate services. They also let new patients know what research opportunities may be available.
You're welcome to ask about clinical trials at any time. Our certified clinical research coordinators can help you find the studies that might be a good fit. Call 816.404.4375 for more information.
