At University Health, we understand that kidney issues can have a big impact on your life. We're here to help.
If you choose us as your care provider, you can expect our team to see you for your first appointment within two weeks. You can also expect that, at every visit, our team will take as much time as needed to discuss your health, provide instructions and answer your questions.
Our kidney doctors and team
Our nephrologists treat a wide range of conditions, including kidney infections, kidney failure, kidney stones, severe hypertension, electrolyte disorders and polycystic kidney disease. These doctors are all board-certified in both internal medicine and nephrology. They are also some of the foremost experts in their field and teach at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine.
Though nephrologists are at the center of the care we provide, they aren't the only specialists involved in helping you.
For example, we partner with the specialists in the diabetes and endocrinology clinic. Because we share the same clinic space, we’re able to collaborate on the best plan of care for our patients. We also partner with the vascular surgery team on care for patients who require dialysis. And we work closely with other institutions to coordinate kidney transplants.
In addition, your care team will include dietitians who will teach you about any dietary changes you need to make and help you learn how to manage food and liquids.
We also have a social worker available every day. This specialist helps with issues like transportation, insurance, medications and more.
Dialysis centers
If you're on long-term dialysis, our nephrologists will come to you. There's no need to make an extra trip to our clinic. Our physicians see patients at several dialysis centers throughout the Kansas City area:
