Weight Management

If you struggle with your weight, you aren't alone. And there is hope.

At University Health, you'll find your partners in weight loss. Our team includes board-certified weight-loss doctors and a nurse practitioner. We specialize in helping people who are overweight or have obesity. Our clinic provides a caring and nonjudgmental place, especially since many of our patients have experienced stigma or shame due to weight. We’ll work with you to create an achievable weight-loss plan based on your health and your goals.

Our patients

We help individuals who have a body mass index (BMI) above 27. But that's where the similarities end. Each person we work with is different, with unique needs and goals. Find out your body mass index on the calculator provided here.

Our weight-loss program

To learn about you and your needs, we'll start by performing a thorough medical evaluation to assess your overall health. If needed, we may perform advanced diagnostic testing. This could include metabolic testing or body composition analysis. We'll also review your medications and help with transitioning, when appropriate, to options that can help you lose instead of gain weight.

Through the entire process our team will work with you. Together, we'll set an achievable weight-loss goal and develop a strategy to help you reach that goal. Your weight-loss plan might include:

  • Medical nutrition therapy with doctors and dietitians.
  • Weight-loss medication.
  • Input from healthcare providers in other disciplines.
  • Behavioral health support.

Bariatric surgery

University Health does not provide bariatric surgery but can refer you to a Bariatric Centers of Excellence (BSCOE) and help you get ready for the procedure. This includes dietitian visits and medical weight loss visits. After your surgery, we will help monitor labs and medications as well as help treat or prevent weight regain.
