The Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) in Training Program is a paid, six-week workforce development program offered twice annually. The program is designed for individuals interested in beginning a career in healthcare and becoming a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at University Health.
Participants complete a structured training program consisting of 75 didactic (classroom and online) hours and 100 supervised clinical hours in an acute care setting. The curriculum focuses on foundational patient care skills, communication, safety, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
During the clinical portion of the program, participants work alongside experienced healthcare professionals to apply newly learned skills and gain hands-on experience caring for patients. Program participants must successfully complete all required training hours, competencies, and certification requirements.
Requirements include, but are not limited to:
- High school diploma or GED
- BCLS certification completed within 30 days of hire
- Completion of all competency training, education, and program requirements within 90 days of hire
Upon successful completion of the program, participants may transition into a Patient Care Technician (PCT) role at University Health. The program provides a supportive learning environment focused on teamwork, professional growth, and developing the skills needed for a successful healthcare career.

Applications
A new cohort starts twice a year – June and October.
- Applications open approximately three months prior to each cohort start date.
- Interested applicants are encouraged to apply during the designated application period for their preferred cohort.
