From Soccer Star to Healer

As a physical therapist in the intensive care unit (ICU) at University Health, Jen Buczkowski helps critically ill and injured patients rebuild their strength after life-changing illnesses and injuries. In this challenging job, she often draws on her soccer background, using lessons learned on the field to encourage patients to keep pushing forward in their recovery.

Jen’s passion for soccer began at age five. A few years later, her talent took her around the world to compete in soccer tournaments. She eventually played collegiate soccer at the University of Notre Dame and, after graduation, became a professional women’s soccer player.

“I think my soccer experience can definitely help my patients at University Health,” Buczkowski says. “I can help patients hopefully overcome difficult challenges in their lives.”

From the soccer field to the ICU, watch how Jen used her soccer experience to transition into a career dedicated to helping patients heal at University Health.
