A Deadly Mistake
It’s a heartbreaking fact. Last year, 39 American children died after being left in hot cars. A child’s body temperature rises about three times quicker than an adult’s. It doesn’t take long for the inside of a car to become dangerously hot, even when the outside temperature isn’t soaring.
Here are some safety tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:
- Never leave a child unattended in a car, even with the windows down or in the shade.
- Leave something you’d reach for, like your key fob, in the backseat.
- Ask your childcare provider to call you if you miss a regular drop off.
- Store your car keys somewhere a child can’t find them.
