Cesarean (C-section) Procedure

Welcome to the University Health pre-operative cesarean delivery patient education video. At UH, the safety and well-being of you and your child are a priority. We created this video to help you understand what to expect from us throughout your delivery and recovery. We know that patient education leads to better health outcomes. So grab a pen and paper to write down any questions. A member of our team will help you answer your questions.

In addition to this video, you will also have a one-on-one conversation with your doctor to review your specific situation.

They will confirm the date, planned time, and location of your cesarean. Your doctor will discuss any possible risk for complications, and your anticipated recovery time in the hospital after surgery. They will also talk to you about medications you may need to start or stop before your delivery. Please remember any questions related to your surgery should be directed to your doctor.

University Health patients are usually delivered at one of two locations, downtown at The Birthplace at University Health Truman Medical Center or in Eastern Jackson County at the Lakewood Family Birthplace at University Health Lakewood Medical Center. Our care plan is similar for patients who deliver at either location.

Ensuring that your health and delivery experience are safe and enjoyable is a process that starts before you enter our hospitals. We hope to walk you through our goals during this short video. We will cover Phase 1 – Care before surgery; Phase 2 – Care the day of surgery; and Phase 3 – Care during recovery.
